Vega Sicilia Unico & Vega Sicilia Alion

Add Taste to Your Wine Collection

The best wines are also, often, storytellers. Sometimes you agonize about adding a high-value wine to your collection, but sometimes it's a no-brainer. There are a few wines you should always add to your wine collection when you have an opportunity. Vega Sicilia's Unico and Alion are two of them. These wines are like two siblings born a decade apart. They share a heritage, but are unique expressions of their parents' personalities.

Vega Sicilia comes from one of Spain's oldest and most respected vineyards. The original owner of Vega Sicilia traveled to France and returned with vines from Bordeaux. He planted them alongside the local Tempranillo grape vines. The Tempranillo proved to make the better wine, and Unico features 80% Tempranillo blended with 20% Bordeaux varietals. The Unico is one of the most collectible Spanish wines.

Vega Sicilia Unico

Vega Sicilia Unico is an exciting wine that offers continual opportunities to discover new flavors. The best bottles are not ever released to the public before being aged for ten years. And, many vintages are held by wine fans for far longer. The wine has an almost unlimited cellaring potential. Every year reveals more nuances in one of Spain's most bewitching reds. Bottles that are 50 years or older are opened and enjoyed by connoisseurs. Even when young, these bottles fetch premium prices because of their rarity.

Vega Sicilia Alion

Vega Sicilia Alion is a far more modern wine. It was the first 100% Tempranillo wine (also called Tinta Fino) aged solely in new French oak in Ribera del Duero. While the fruits are largely the same as those that go into the Unico, the results are startlingly different. This wine is also a great candidate for aging, but the results will continue to be massively different as time goes on.

We urge you to let your wine cellar tell a sophisticated and intricate story. By including both Vega Sicilia Unico and Alion in your collection, you represent both traditional and modern wine choices. Each will age beautifully but differently from one another. Put the two together in your collection to showcase two historic styles that express unique stories and can be enjoyed on their own unique merits.
